Echolalia and Gestalt Language Development: Supporting Communication in Everyday Adventures

Move beyond simply recognizing scripts and delayed echolalia as a “gestalt” to understanding why a child may be using them and what you can do to support authentic communication.

In this practical, neurodiversity-affirming training, you'll explore how to recognize when a child may be developing language “whole to part” as a gestalt language processor (GLP), what that means for their language goals, and how the adults in their lives can create environments that support connection, safety, and spontaneous communication.

You'll leave with strategies you can begin using in therapy, the classroom, and everyday life right away.

Echolalia and Gestalt Language Development:

Supporting Communication in Everyday Adventures

What You'll Learn

This training isn’t designed to leave you with more theory and a longer to-do list.

It's designed to help you walk away thinking differently about the child in front of you, with practical strategies you can start using during their next everyday adventure.

Who can attend this mini course? This introductory course is for caregivers, educators, paraprofessionals, and SLPs/OTs/PTs.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

• Describe the communicative nature of immediate and delayed echolalia
• Identify whether goals for a child using delayed echolalia are supportive of the child's developmental stage
• List the stages of gestalt language development and the primary language supports for each
• Describe foundational environmental supports that build connection, safety, and trust and create opportunities for spontaneous, authentic communication
• Apply language-modeling strategies designed to support a child who uses delayed echolalia
